Moonshine Express

This weekend was a big adventure. We left Friday at 5am, drove to Picton, crossed on the ferry and kept driving all the way to Tokaanu on Lake Taupo, arriving 14 hours later.

Once there we found Moonshine Express, launched her, tied her to the jetty and slept on board.

Next morning we motored around Lake Taupo since there was no breeze, did a little fishing, then pulled her out, pulled down the mast, packed her up and drove south. Stayed the night in a rest area, then caught another ferry and drove all the way home arriving Sunday afternoon.

We'll keep the boat in a lockup in Lyttelton on her trailer and are looking forward to many boating summer holidays! We just have to learn how to sail her...

For those sailing buffs, Moonshine Express is a 9m trailer yacht built by Mike Muir of Wellington in 1990. She sleeps 6 and has on-board head and shower. Awesome boat (well we think so).
